You know, a lot of this can be integrated into the GettingThingsDone (GTD) System. The very first step of the system is collecting 'stuff' - basically, all the stimuli that is coming at you that currently doesnt have a filter equipped with automation. I think this is a brilliant idea - it sort of combines a lot of hot ideas at the moment - automation (salesforce.com and their task based, time based and topic based automation), the collection of the incoming 'stuff' (GettingThingsDone), and the many gifts of web2.0.

I think the way to do is to link various web2.0's together - that is - turn your incoming voice into text (Jott.com) during the appropriate hours, for instance. Consolidating as much as you can into text when you can, and shutting of incoming text when you are supposed to be focusing on voice.

You know - there are a lot of GTD'ers that also are obsessive with salesforce, and a lot of companies making a serious dime off of doing third party apps that integrate with salesforce. A good place to start in terms of making the initial money, would be to come up with an app for salesforce that translates all of those things, and use salesforce automation to make the rules in terms of time, task, and topic based incoming workflow. A serious enough bundle could be made, and the contacts made to create the stand alone afterward. Thats my 2 cents. :)

Fantastic idea Darren! However, I foresee integrating voice and txt to be complicated and expensive for a smaller startup. I'm going to simplify your idea a little...why not develop a web service that integrates all major email services gmail, yahoo mail, and hotmail. These sites expose APIs to their services. Why not do for email what Meebo is doing for chat? Does this exist already? I personally have 3 email accounts accross gmail and hotmail. It would be great if I had one point of entry for all my email. I would totally use a service like that.

The text alert I got vie my feed reader shadow-app that triggers my mobile IM telling me this post was available woke me up (at 3am). I guess that puts me in the top tier of over-connectedness (and tells me that real-time is not always really-good-time).
